For all my fellow Christians out there, we all know that
Lent has finally started. Lent is a somber
time of prayer, penance, and sacrifice for the preparation of Easter (aka Jesus’
resurrection). Many Christians give up a bad habit or pick up a good that they
would like to start doing for Lent. Personally, I have always given up the
classic ‘no junk food.’ This year, I wanted to challenge myself a bit more so I
am sharing what I am giving up (or picking up) for Lent (yes, I know I’m a
couple of days late) and hopefully inspire others to challenge themselves this
year.
1. No junk food
Ha! Like I said above, I always
give junk food up! This year, I want to try to give it up and kick it for good
(with an occasional binge eating marathon while watching Criminal Minds with my
mom). I always look at Lent as a “resolution” time in hopes that I’ll be strong
enough to keep away from bad things longer than 40 days.
2. Workout everyday
Another “resolution” of mine is to
start working out every day and hopefully keep at it after the 40 days are up
because the Man upstairs knows I've been slacking in the physical activity
department.
3. Only 1 hour of TV a day
For a while, I have noticed that I
watch A LOT of TV. Since Ash Wednesday, I have been having withdrawals from
morning Criminal Minds marathons and afternoon Blue Bloods marathons. It’s been
hard but I’m finally getting used to it! I have also noticed my productivity
slightly increase.
4. Start (and finish) YouCat
Before I graduated high school, I
was given a book called ‘YouCat’ from my Diocesan Youth Council Director. I
have yet to start it and I graduated in 2012 (sorry, Steven). This Lenten season,
I am determined to start and finish that super cool book!
5. Pray everyday
I already do pray every day but I
want to start praying deeper and deepen my relationship with God. I have had
some struggles the past couple of years keeping up my relationship with God and
having faith in Him so I want to strengthen my faith again by actively praying.
Yes, I know I listed some pretty basic things but I wanted
to keep you interested and hopefully you can challenge yourself to giving up
more than one thing this Lent. I will give updates how I am doing! Please feel free
to comment what you are giving up!
