Why I Chose Avon

As of September 2013, I have been selling Avon. Avon is a company that sells beauty, skin care, bath, body, and home items to people worldwide. Avon has been in my family for decades. My grandmother bought Avon frequently, my mom bought and sold Avon when I was younger, my mom now works for Avon as a DSM, and now I sell Avon. I have never used another type of makeup, skin care, or bath product that is not Avon. Needless to say, I am loyal to Avon.

When I left home to attend K-State (the best school in the nation), I wanted a job that would be flexible and that I would enjoy. I applied for jobs as soon as I moved to Manhattan and found nothing. I had not thought of Avon until the end of August because that was my only hope for some extra cash. I was desperate. I called my mom as soon as I made my decision and she was up in Manhattan a couple of days later to sign me up. Not only was I excited to start Avon because I love ALL of their products but I was also excited because I was sort of following in my mom’s footsteps and if anyone knows me, they know I want to be as successful as my mom.

Not only was I excited to start selling Avon because I love the products and wanted to share that with everyone I knew but also because I was excited to represent a company that has excellent values.
The excellent values that Avon has are what makes them the company that they are. Avon is known for so much more than makeup such as:

·         Avon Foundation for Women

o   Breast Cancer Crusade
§  The Avon Foundation for Women provides funding to breast cancer programs that operate in three areas: scientific research, safety net access-to-care programs for the medically underserved, and outreach programs focused on education and screening.

o   Speak Out Against Domestic Violence
§  The Avon Foundation for Women launched Speak Out Against Domestic Violence as an initiative to build awareness, educate, and improve prevention and direct service programs to bring domestic violence issues out of the woods. Through the end of 2013, in the U.S. alone, Avon has provided nearly $38 million for the domestic violence cause.

o   Emergency Relief
§  Avon Products, Inc. and the Avon Foundation for Women together responded quickly to national and international emergencies.
§  In 2014, Avon provided funds to World Food Program for Typhoon Haiyan survivors. In 2013, Avon provided funds to the United Way of Central Oklahoma May Tornadoes Relief Fund for tornado relief efforts and Rebuilding Together for Hurricane Sandy rebuilding and relief efforts.

Of course, I had to research the programs that the Avon Foundation for Women and EVERYTHNG that they do. But these are the reasons why I love Avon. Not only do they empower me with great earnings and opportunities but Avon empowers women all over the world. Avon inspires other women and myself to be the healthiest, proud, brave, and confident women that we are all meant to be.

Lent

For all my fellow Christians out there, we all know that Lent has finally started.  Lent is a somber time of prayer, penance, and sacrifice for the preparation of Easter (aka Jesus’ resurrection). Many Christians give up a bad habit or pick up a good that they would like to start doing for Lent. Personally, I have always given up the classic ‘no junk food.’ This year, I wanted to challenge myself a bit more so I am sharing what I am giving up (or picking up) for Lent (yes, I know I’m a couple of days late) and hopefully inspire others to challenge themselves this year.

1.   No junk food
Ha! Like I said above, I always give junk food up! This year, I want to try to give it up and kick it for good (with an occasional binge eating marathon while watching Criminal Minds with my mom). I always look at Lent as a “resolution” time in hopes that I’ll be strong enough to keep away from bad things longer than 40 days.

2.   Workout everyday
Another “resolution” of mine is to start working out every day and hopefully keep at it after the 40 days are up because the Man upstairs knows I've been slacking in the physical activity department.

3.   Only 1 hour of TV a day
For a while, I have noticed that I watch A LOT of TV. Since Ash Wednesday, I have been having withdrawals from morning Criminal Minds marathons and afternoon Blue Bloods marathons. It’s been hard but I’m finally getting used to it! I have also noticed my productivity slightly increase.

4.   Start (and finish) YouCat
Before I graduated high school, I was given a book called ‘YouCat’ from my Diocesan Youth Council Director. I have yet to start it and I graduated in 2012 (sorry, Steven). This Lenten season, I am determined to start and finish that super cool book!

5.   Pray everyday
I already do pray every day but I want to start praying deeper and deepen my relationship with God. I have had some struggles the past couple of years keeping up my relationship with God and having faith in Him so I want to strengthen my faith again by actively praying.

Yes, I know I listed some pretty basic things but I wanted to keep you interested and hopefully you can challenge yourself to giving up more than one thing this Lent. I will give updates how I am doing! Please feel free to comment what you are giving up!

5 Quotes That Keep Me Going

Happy Tuesday!

Like most people, I have some quotes that get me through life every day. Sometimes, those quotes come from Pinterest, family members, or they may be from books. I have so many favorites that I could go on for days. Today, I’ll share my 5 favorite quotes.

1. “Be yourself, everyone else is already taken”

Being a girl is hard and most women may or may not agree with me but I have had trouble fitting in in the past but as I've grown older, I have realized that people like different. Even if people don’t like different, you shouldn't live your life to please people. That only causes more stress on top of so much stress you may already have. I believe that to be genuinely happy, you have to stop caring what people may think of you.

2. “You've gotta dance like there's nobody watching, love like you'll never be hurt, sing like there's nobody listening, and live like it's heaven on earth.” –William W. Purkey

I fell in love with this quote right after I saw it. I live by this every day and is extremely special to me because my mom says it to me every once in a while. The words are a great reminder to live your life like you want it.

3. “She builds up other because she knows what it’s like to be torn down.”

Life is isn't easy for everyone and I know what it’s like to feel like a little grain of sand next to someone. Build others up every chance you get because you don’t know what battles they could be fighting.

4. “A smooth sea never made a skillful sailor”

I can’t count how many times I say this a week. Whether it’s a small event that’s going on in my life or one that really beats me up for a while, I remind myself that things happen for a reason and I will learn something important from it.

5. “Strength is not measured by physical capacity but from indomitable will” -Gandhi

I found this quote when I was writing a presentation about my mom. I felt like this quote describes her and many of the women in my family in so many ways and it makes the saying so much more important to me. These words are also a great reminder of why I’m still here and why I have the great life I have.

These are 5 of the quotes that keep me going and have had a great impact on my life at some point. I would love to hear some of your favorite quotes and what they mean to you!

My Top 10 Avon Beauty Must Haves

Good Morning Beautiful People!

I hope you are all feeling as refreshed as I am this morning! This is my first blog post and I am so excited to share my top 10 Avon beauty must haves!

To begin with, I have been using Avon since I can remember. I started off using Avon jewelry, clothes, and bath products. As I got older, my mom FINALLY let me use Avon makeup! I started off with mascara and now I have every possible eye shadow palette, mascara, eyeliner, concealer, etc. to go around to everyone. I love makeup and I am so excited to share my love for it with you all.

1. Big and Daring Mascara

Avon mascara is one of the best mascaras out there. I use mascara religiously and I love all of the types of mascaras that Avon has. The first Avon mascara I ever used was Super Drama. That was love at first use… I have changed up my mascaras throughout the years and now I use Big and Daring. This mascara has changed the game. I have cut 10-15 minutes of my makeup routine because Big and Daring has all of the goods. Big and Daring gives lashes volume and length all in one. Before this mascara, I used 3 different mascaras to achieve my desired look. Another great thing about Big and Daring is that it is not waterproof but it does last through some major tear fests.

2. Magix Face Perfector

This face perfector is the real deal. The Magix Face Perfector is a moisturizer with SPF and it also doubles as a face primer. If you use this product, apply it after your skin care routine and before you put your makeup on. I apply it 3-5 minutes before I apply my makeup and it keeps my makeup from creasing and showing my very large pores. I do not wear makeup without this product!

3. Anew Skin Care

Anew Skin Care is the most crucial part of my daily routine. I give Anew Skin Care all of the credit for the healthy skin that I have. I have used different Anew Skin Care products and I enjoy all of them. Recently, I have been using Anew Vitale. Anew Vitale has VitaToneComplex Technology which helps skin feel and appear brighter and well rested. As a busy college kid, this product is one of my best friends after a night of studying. Who needs coffee when you have skin care? Just kidding, I ALWAYS need coffee.

4. Ideal Flawless Liquid Foundation

Ideal Flawless Liquid Foundation is my go to foundation. This foundation feels so light on my skin and has medium to full coverage. A great feature to this foundation is that it also has SPF and it provides some great protection for your skin and who doesn’t want healthy skin?

5. Smooth Minerals Translucent Powder

Recently, I have discovered this powder. I use this powder to set my foundation and to reduce oil on my skin. This powder does a great job keeping my foundation looking great all day. I rarely touch up my makeup during the day because it does so well.

6. Bronzing Gel

When I heard about this bronzing gel, I just knew I had to have it. I had never heard of such a product and I wanted to be one of the first people to try it. At first, I was not too impressed. I learned later on that I used it wrong. I changed up my brushes and now I love it. I also use it as a foundation tinter so that I don’t have to buy new foundation.

7. Beyond Color Lip Plumping Lipstick

I use this lip plumper in a nude color under my actual lip color. Unlike other lip plumper lipsticks, this product does not give you that tingly/burning feeling that makes you feel like your lips are going to fall off.

8. Ultra Color Absolute Lipstick

This lipstick is my favorites. Not only does the color last all day but it also has moisturizer in the formula so that you don’t have chapped lips! Again, this product does have SPF for healthy, beautiful lips!

9. Eyeliner

I have two favorite eyeliners. The first eyeliner that has my heart is the Wash off Waterproof Eyeliner. This eyeliner lives up to its name and stays on through tear fests but comes off easily with makeup remover. The second eyeliner that has my heart is the Mega Effects Liquid Eyeliner. The unique thing about this eyeliner is that it is a liquid eyeliner in a stick. It’s so precise and smear resistant. As soon as you put it on your eyelid, it dries within 2 seconds and lasts for days.

10. Makeup Setting Spray

Last but definitely not least is my makeup setting spray. I apply this setting spray after I’m finished with my makeup and it really does work. It is also healthier than putting hair spray on your face. I put this setting spray on all summer and after running around for my internship this summer, my makeup never once went crazy. My makeup lasts all day with help from the translucent powder and this awesome spray.

These are a few of the products I can’t live without. Feel free to share your favorite Avon products with me!
